To promote sustainable practices in oil palm management via integrated control of pest and diseases.
Goals
- To intensify awareness and better integration of biological control agents in pest management, reducing reliance on pesticides.
- To promote greater use of integrated disease and weed management with bio agents to reduce chemical use.
Entomology and Integrated Pest Management (EIPM) Unit
To intensify awareness and better integration of biological control agents, to advocates combination of multiple control strategies to achieve long-term pest management solutions and to improve the economic benefits related to the adoption of IPM practices.
Entomology and Ecological Group
To conduct studies on the ecology due to the oil palm pests and also the beneficial insects vast diversity of form, function and life-cycle, their interaction with oil palm, other organisms and the environment.
Integrated Pest Management Group
To establish ecosystems approach to the control of oil palm pest and to coordinate use of pest and environmental information to design and implement pest control methods that are economically, environmentally and socially sound.
