Introduction
The Mechanisation and Engineering Unit (MEU) is responsible to carry out R&D&C activities on farm mechanisation for the oil palm industry. The Unit consist of dedicated engineers and technologist with different field of study. Located at MPOB/UKM Research Station at Bangi, Selangor, and equipped with various engineering tools and facilities, the Unit is in full throttle mode to serve the industry through their innovations and services.
Mission
To mechanise field operations in order to reduce labour dependence, increase productivity and make field operations more environmentally friendly.
Strategic Research Areas
- Development of machines and systems to alleviate the labour shortage and reduce dependency on foreign labour.
- Introduction of machines which are economically feasible and technologically viable with the aims of to increase labour productivity and efficiency.
- Facilitating the development of farm mechanisation technology in Malaysia.
- Improving mechanisation system through awareness of the current equipment available both nationally and internationally.
- Transfer technology, through long-term field demonstrations, specialised mechanisation seminars, presentations and collection of data.
- Providing technical consultation and advisory services for oil palm mechanisation.
Farm Mechanisation Group
Objectives
- To mechanise oil palm field operations with emphasis given for harvesting, evacuation of FFB and loose fruits collection activities.
- To disseminate information through technical trainings, seminars and field demonstrations.
Automation and Engineering Group
Objectives
- To promote and incorporate advance engineering approaches for future development of farm machinery.
- To embrace IR 4.0 technologies in oil palm mechanisation operations.
- To disseminate information through technical trainings, seminars and field demonstrations.
